the siriusxm radio days
We first found out about Satellite radio in the summer of 2000. At the time, there were (2) companies, Sirius and XM. We definitely saw the potential and wanted to part of the future of radio. At the time, XM was based in Washington DC and Sirius was in NYC. So we decided to focus on Sirius.
We spent more than a year creating a new demo tape every month a sending it Fedex with signature confirmation to the HipHop program director, Ken Spellman. During those two years, we left several follow up voicemails and never heard a word from anybody. In August of 2001, we were asked to participate as panelists for a radio workshop at the annual Billboard music conference in Manhattan. By sheer luck, the moderator of the panel was Ken Spellman of Sirius Satellite Radio. At one point during the panel discussion, Ken turned to us and said “Wonder TwinZ, I received all of your demos and I think it is time for us to sit down and discuss your future with Sirius. In my head I thought “Niiiiice, mission complete.”
For the next year, we made weekly trips to Ken Spellman’s office up at the Sirius Satellite building in Manhattan. During each trip we brought him copies of new music that we received from artists from all over the country, and other countries too. We became Sirius’ ear to the streets and helped them stock their catalog of music. In May of 2002, signed as part of the original starting line-up of on-air talent for the HipHop channels on Sirius.
